Large Deformation Finite Element Analyses for 3D X-ray CT Scanned Microscopic Structures of Polyurethane Foams

Polyurethane foams have unique properties that make them suitable for a wide range of applications, including cushioning and seat pads. The foam mechanical largely depend on both the parent material cell microstructure. Uniaxial loading experiments, X-ray tomography finite element analysis can be used to investigate relationship between macroscopic microscopic structure. specimens were scanned using computed tomography. geometries converted three-dimensional (3D) CAD models open source, commercially available software tools. meshed simulate compression tests implicit method. calculated uniaxial in good agreement with experimental results strains up 30%. presented method would effective investigating effect polymer geometrical features properties, guide manufacturing methods specific applications.
